2012 Summer Student Nurse Internship Application
Roswell Park Cancer Institute offers an eight-week summer nurse intern program for students entering their senior year of a baccalaureate nursing program. Our program offers a unique opportunity for students to increase their clinical experience in a progressive, comprehensive cancer center setting under the preceptorship of an experienced registered nurse.
This summer experience can enhance your student nursing knowledge by providing the opportunity to:
- Work in the only NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Western New York.
- Work in the only Magnet Designated Hospital in Western New York.
- Develop clinical experience in basic nursing procedures, and observe and assist a registered oncology nurse with advanced procedures.
- Utilize the nursing process specific to oncological nursing care.
- Develop communication skills and interpersonal relationships in a collegial environment.
There are opportunities in many areas including:
- Surgical Oncology
- Medical Oncology
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Intensive Care Unit
- Pediatric Oncology
Students will have the opportunity to experience both inpatient and outpatient rotations.
Students participate in weekly seminars examining current practice and professional oncology nursing issues.
Application Process
Interested applicants must submit a complete enrollment application, and written recommendations from college faculty to the Director of Nursing Education at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Final selection to the program will be based on successful completion of the application, RPCI employment process, faculty recommendations and interviews.
